CAJUPUT OIL
Cajuput oil is a volatile oil obtained by distillation from the leaves of the myrtaceous trees Melaleuca leucadendra, Melaleuca cajuputi, and probably other Melaleuca species. The trees yielding the oil are found throughout Maritime Southeast Asia and over the hotter parts of the Australian continent. The majority of the oil is produced on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The name “cajeput” is derived from its Malay name, kayu putih or “white wood”.

The chemical composition of eucalyptus oil varies widely. which is influenced by the producing plant species and area of origin or place of growth. Main components in Eucalyptus oil is 1,8-cineole which is white oil quality parameters. Even 1,8-cineole content influenced by a series of processes carried out in the eucalyptus oil production. Eucalyptus oil obtained directly from the distillation has a level of 1,8-cineole reaches approx. 35%, lower compared to eucalyptus oil that has passed further purification process which is in the range of 55-60% [5]. Cajuput has a fresh camphoraceous aroma with a scent similar to Eucalyptus oil, but softer with a hint of herbal aroma. Cajuput oil is non-toxic, non-irritating and insensitive. However Cajuput oil can irritate the skin, therefore it needs to be diluted well, with Carrier oil.
Relaxing for Baby
Eucalyptus oil that is applied to the baby’s skin will widen the local blood vessels, causing a warm sensation and slightly reducing pain. However, this oil is classified as an irritant so that excessive use can cause rashes on the skin.
